A number of Chevrolet Cruze drivers have reported a bad odor coming from their vehicle while the heater is running. Over half a million of these vehicles have been sold. Although not all are producing the smell, many of the vehicles are producing an odor which has become so bad that some drivers will not allow their children to ride in the car. Others have reported cases of burning, itchy eyes and a dry throat as a result. So what is causing the smell? It is thought to be a result of antifreeze leaking into the interior of the car. When the coolant hits the heater, it vaporizes, producing the bad odor. Not only is it nearly unbearable to the senses, it may be toxic, putting the health of both drivers and passengers at risk.
GM and Chevrolet dealerships are working with customers to address this issue. If you are a Cruze owner experiencing a bad smell, any repairs should be covered under your warranty. However, not everyone is noticing a change even after several repairs. If you have a question about your Chevy Cruze or are experiencing this problem, the lemon law attorneys at Krohn & Moss, Ltd. Consumer Law Center© will discuss your rights and let you know if we can help.
